Repairing My Hair

I dry and straighten my hair every day. I’ve done this for months and months, often with no heat protection. As a result, my hair has become dry, full of split ends and it refuses to grow despite me willing it on, and taking hair supplements every day for almost a year but I’ve given them up now.
I’ve decided to go (almost) cold turkey and give up the GHD’s. I think if I limit myself to one day a week with straight hair, probably Saturday, and leave it au natural for the rest of the week it might have a decent chance of looking a bit healthier.

I’ve got a couple of hair treatments and masks I want to try out too; An Avon nourishing hair mask, Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment, and I’ve heard good things about putting olive oil in your hair so I might give that a whirl.

In the summer I am fine with plaiting my hair the night before and letting it dry so I have nice waves, but when it’s still practically winter I don’t think that hair style is appropriate so I always end up with a ponytail or topknot which I’m not too keen on as I like to use my hair to hide behind, as it were. So this is going to be difficult for me!

I’m determined to persevere though, and will keep you updated with the progress and probably do some reviews on the products I use in my hair.

Today I just wanted to quickly show you the heat protector I bought over the weekend for when I use the hairdryer.

Andrew Barton Hot Iron Protection Spray 250ml
£3.70

Technically it is for use with a straightener but I didn’t have a lot of time on Saturday to shop around so I quickly nipped into Asda and picked this up for a barganous £3.70.

It has a lovely watermelon scent and the bottle pumps out a fine mist – I use it very generously and after my hair is dry it feels soft and smooth with no greasy residue which is something I am always wary of when putting product in my hair.

Wish me luck with the natural hair; I hope I start to see some positive results soon! Oh, and if you have any hair tips I’d love to hear them!

  2. I have a satin pillowcase that I love to use, I haven't used it in a while (I don't know where it's gone!) and I can totally tell a difference in my hair. I also use a clarifying conditioner instead of shampoo to wash my hair after my aqua aerobics class. I've been looking everywhere for that Lee Stafford mask! I keep reading good things about it, but I don't think it's sold over here :( Oh and the olive oil thing does work really well! Especially on ends. I like to use just a tiny bit because if I use too much it seems to have an opposite effect on my hair.
